Pecha Kucha Pros

We were thrilled to welcome our executive program students to campus this week, who completed three very full days of coursework to kick off the fall semester.  Of course, the intense on-campus sessions are now just part of the routine for the Class of 2015, who in their fourth semester will now be tackling the subjects of Health Care Human Resources Management and Health Care Finance.  In addition to welcoming back this great group of students, we also were excited to meet the Class of 2016, which looks to be a fantastic group with a wide range of experiences and perspectives.  These students were quickly oriented to the program and to Trinity University on Monday before diving into coursework in Health Services Organization and Policy as well as Quantitative Methods.

On Tuesday afternoon, students in Health Services Organization and Policy were challenged to put together Pecha Kucha presentations, which are presentations taking less than 7 minutes consisting of 20 image-based slides with 20 seconds per slide.  The trick with this assignment was that students had less than 2 hours to construct their presentations before presenting them in front of their peers and the HCAD faculty.  Speaking in public, much less a group of people you only met the day before, can be a stressful exercise for most people, and the time constraints imposed upon our students made the assignment even more of a challenge.  Yet these students tackled the assignment more than capably, and we were very impressed and inspired by the messages they had to share with us.  Students were tasked to develop Pecha Kucha presentations that "told their story," including their personal history, what drew them into health care, what issues and experiences mattered most to them, what brought them to the Executive Program to pursue their Master's in Health Care Administration, and what their goals and hopes are for the future.  They were all fantastic, and the stories and diverse backgrounds represented in the class are remarkable.
