All Quiet on Chapman 4th

Tomorrow, August 26th, 2014, we'll welcome a new class of on-campus graduate students to the Department of Health Care Administration at Trinity University, and we'll also welcome back the Class of 2015 from their summer break.  Today, however, it's calm and quiet in the Department, as faculty and staff are busy at their desks getting ready for an exciting fall semester.  We're looking forward to a busy and bustling Department beginning tomorrow, and we've got a nice spot on the wall ready for a picture of the new Class of 2016!

Even though things are quiet here on campus, our extraordinary alumni continue to make some noise out in the field.  Three Trinity alums - Wayne Smith (#15), Joel Allison (#35), and Douglas Hawthorne (#96) - once again made Modern Healthcare's list of the "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" (http://www.modernhealthcare.com/section/100-Most-Influential-2014).  We're proud to call these top leaders alumni of the Trinity University Graduate Program in Health Care Administration!

ACHE Congress? We've Bean There!

This past week, Trinity HCAD students had the chance to enjoy the annual tradition of attending the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress in Chicago. This fun ritual allows first-year students to bond with their classmates, meet and learn from ACHE's community of executives, connect with Trinity alumni, prepare for Preceptor's Conference with mock interviews and experience the city of Chicago. All 23 of the first-year on campus students attended the event along with the Trinity HCAD faculty and a number of the second-year students, who are currently in their year-long residency. There were over 100 education and networking sessions so students were busy meeting with healthcare professionals and graduate students from across the country. Annual Women's Forum

First year students: Rebecca, Christina, Emily, Anna and Caroline We would like to extend our gratitude to AnneMarie Witecki, Megan Powe and Patra Katsigiannis for inviting the first-year students to the Women’s Forum on Thursday, October 30 th .  We were fortunate to listen to Keynote Speaker, Christann Vasquez, President of Seton Medical Center and a prominent figure in the health care industry.  Following our discussion with Ms. Vasquez, the students formed small discussion groups to speak about the challenges that females have in executive and leadership positions. The session ended with the opportunity for students to ask questions to a panel of successful Trinity Alumni including Xochy Hurtado, Tina Ortega, and Leah Spann-Lacy.  Many of the questions focused on work-life balance, raising children while in the work force, and the general challenges that women face in the business world.  Overall, this was a very informative and engaging session. I became interested in healthcare at a relatively early age. I was raised in southeast Michigan and it became clear to me that the socioeconomic status of our community coupled with the state’s educational inequality had a detrimental effect on the overall health status of individuals within the community.
