Welcome Executive Class of 2018!

Earlier this week we welcomed 11 new students in our Executive Graduate program, the Executive Class of 2018!  The students kicked off their first semester with a 3-day on-campus session, with highlights including: a delicious dinner and social gathering at La Fonda on Main; professional development sessions with Bob Shaw, an esteemed alum and Executive-In-Residence; an informative lunch and discussion with Jamie Wesolowski, President and CEO of Methodist Healthcare System; Pecha Kucha presentations providing each student with a chance to "tell their story" and quickly learn about one another; and, of course, an intense three days' worth of rigorous coursework and engaging discussions.

Of course, we also welcomed back our second-year Executive students, who we are very proud of as they begin the second half of their program.  One of the great aspects of our Executive program is that each class blends students who represent different roles and settings throughout the health care delivery system, and the Class of 2018 is no exception.  This diversity produces incredible course discussions and helps each of us develop a more balanced perspective and well-rounded systems view of the health care delivery system, its challenges, and potential solutions to bring improvement to our communities, our organizations, and our patients.  Welcome, Class of 2018, and welcome back, Class of 2017; we are excited to see the new year begin!

ACHE Congress? We've Bean There!

This past week, Trinity HCAD students had the chance to enjoy the annual tradition of attending the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress in Chicago. This fun ritual allows first-year students to bond with their classmates, meet and learn from ACHE's community of executives, connect with Trinity alumni, prepare for Preceptor's Conference with mock interviews and experience the city of Chicago. All 23 of the first-year on campus students attended the event along with the Trinity HCAD faculty and a number of the second-year students, who are currently in their year-long residency. There were over 100 education and networking sessions so students were busy meeting with healthcare professionals and graduate students from across the country. Annual Women's Forum

First year students: Rebecca, Christina, Emily, Anna and Caroline We would like to extend our gratitude to AnneMarie Witecki, Megan Powe and Patra Katsigiannis for inviting the first-year students to the Women’s Forum on Thursday, October 30 th .  We were fortunate to listen to Keynote Speaker, Christann Vasquez, President of Seton Medical Center and a prominent figure in the health care industry.  Following our discussion with Ms. Vasquez, the students formed small discussion groups to speak about the challenges that females have in executive and leadership positions. The session ended with the opportunity for students to ask questions to a panel of successful Trinity Alumni including Xochy Hurtado, Tina Ortega, and Leah Spann-Lacy.  Many of the questions focused on work-life balance, raising children while in the work force, and the general challenges that women face in the business world.  Overall, this was a very informative and engaging session. For this week's Student Spotlight we're interviewing Ashraf Ali, a member of the Class of 2021. We're so lucky to have him in the program and look forward to learning more about him! Undergraduate University: Auburn University   Undergrad Major: Health Services Administration What made you interested in healthcare administration? I became interested in healthcare at a relatively early age. I was raised in southeast Michigan and it became clear to me that the socioeconomic status of our community coupled with the state’s educational inequality had a detrimental effect on the overall health status of individuals within the community.
