Orientation

This week marked the beginning of a journey for our On-Campus program's Class of 2018, just as last week marked the beginning of a journey for our Executive program's new students.

For both groups, the first week is marked by excitement, enthusiasm, and anticipation for what the future holds.  It's a time where strangers, meeting for the first time, quickly become acquainted with their classmates and look forward to establishing ties that will be maintained throughout their careers.  In some ways it's also like the beginning of a roller coaster, when one gets to the top of the first hill with much excitement but then looks ahead to the rest of the ride and also wonders how will they make it through...for both our Executive and On-Campus program students, we commonly hear that the beginning of the program feels like "drinking water from a fire hose."  Yet, just like a roller coaster, students also commonly reach the end of the program and wonder where the time went, as it seems to rush by.  The orientation of new HCAD classes is a particularly special time, as we enjoy meeting each individual and hearing their personal story of how their path has led them to the program, but we also look forward to one day looking back upon this time and marveling at the growth and development that each student experiences over the course of their roughly two years at Trinity.

Of course, we also try to mix in plenty of fun and camaraderie throughout orientation, including ice breakers and unique competitions for our On-Campus program students.  This year, our new first-year OC students completed their first week in which they: met one another as well as their second-year peers on Monday evening; toured campus, met faculty over lunch, and competed in icebreaker games on Tuesday; began classes with Dr. Kaissi's course on Health Care Institutional Management on Wednesday; began Dr. Schumacher's course on Quantitative Methods and Operations Management on Thursday; and, began their seminar with Dr. Rogers on Professional Development, took class and individual photos, and completed orientation with Dr. Schumacher on Friday.  It's been a busy and full week, and we look forward to the many weeks ahead with this group of promising students!
