Voices of Experience

We are so privileged in the Department of Health Care Administration to benefit from the expertise, guidance, and support of many individuals who have considerable experience as high-ranking executives and seasoned leaders in health care administration and who generously share their time and wisdom with our program.  Our Executive-In-Residence, Mr. John Hornbeak, is such an individual.  With a two-decade tenure as the President and CEO of Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio, Mr. Hornbeak brings an extensive background of leadership and service to the classroom.  Not only does he serve as an instructor for the second-year Capstone course, he also regularly participates in the classroom for many of the program courses.  Today, in the Health Services Organization & Policy I course, Mr. Hornbeak offered a fascinating presentation about the Paradigm Shifts in Healthcare: Past, Present, and Future, discussing elements in our health care delivery system's history that have led to its present state and looking ahead to future issues and challenges that must be confronted by tomorrow's health care leaders.

Earlier this semester the executive program was privileged to hear from Mr. Robert N. Shaw, HCAD alumnus, former executive-in-residence, and former President of the Norton Cancer Institute, and next week the on-campus program looks forward to hearing from another executive, Mr. Stanley F. Hupfeld, alumnus and former President and CEO of INTEGRIS Health, who will be a visiting executive throughout the week and spending time in the classroom for numerous courses sharing his thoughts, experiences, and wisdom.  We are grateful for these and other executives who are so instrumental in providing an outstanding educational experience for our students!
