Traditions
As we head into the holiday season, it's a time when many of us look forward to enjoying our annual holiday traditions with family and friends. That got us thinking about traditions within the Trinity HCAD family, and in this week's post, first-year on-campus student Camille Fagan helps give us a glimpse of the traditions that current students in the Trinity HCAD family enjoy!
"Traditions are a large part of my student experience in the HCAD program. Several traditions are built into the program officially, while others are less formal and have been passed down throughout the years. Some traditions have even formed naturally within my class during our time here so far.
Traditions that most alumni will remember are, of course, the Christmas party and the ACHE conference. The Christmas party is often held in Trinity’s Skyline Dining Room, where students enjoy a beautiful view of downtown San Antonio. My class is excited to experience this long-cherished HCAD tradition, especially because it is rumored that one of the department professors will be dressing up as Santa Claus! Similarly, we are counting down to the ACHE conference that will take place in Chicago this coming March. We are already discussing which classes we want to attend together and which landmarks to visit once work is done for the day.
Other customs we first years have enjoyed thus far are the HCAD mixer and Trinity-wide concert at the beginning of orientation week. These events helped break the ice between us during our first week in the program, and I can point to them as the first moments that I felt part of the Trinity family. We certainly plan to encourage next year’s first years to engage in them as well.
My class has also developed our own unique traditions to generate camaraderie! On Wednesdays, the boys typically play basketball on campus before attending Nacho Hour together, and some girls in the class like to meet up to watch Grey’s Anatomy. My favorite tradition we’ve started is our Thursday lunch. Every other Thursday, we either pile into the Coates center on campus or explore a nearby San Antonio restaurant. These lunches have already proven to loosen us up after long days, and they help us to remember that the relationships made here are equally important to what we are studying in class."
Family...camaraderie...traditions: all parts of the Trinity HCAD experience that we embrace and are thankful to see continued, year after year.
