We would like to extend our gratitude to AnneMarie Witecki, Megan Powe and Patra Katsigiannis for inviting the first-year students to the Women’s Forum on Thursday, October 30th.  We were fortunate to listen to Keynote Speaker, Christann Vasquez, President of Seton Medical Center and a prominent figure in the health care industry.  Following our discussion with Ms. Vasquez, the students formed small discussion groups to speak about the challenges that females have in executive and leadership positions. The session ended with the opportunity for students to ask questions to a panel of successful Trinity Alumni including Xochy Hurtado, Tina Ortega, and Leah Spann-Lacy.  Many of the questions focused on work-life balance, raising children while in the work force, and the general challenges that women face in the business world.  Overall, this was a very informative and engaging session. We hope to pass this opportunity along to the next class!

This week our students have enjoyed the annual tradition of traveling to Chicago to attend the American College of Healthcare Executives' (ACHE) Congress on Healthcare Leadership as well as the Trinity University Health Care Administration Department Alumni Association's Dean Duce Award Dinner, which this year recognized distinguished alumnus Bruce Lawrence ('82), President and CEO of INTEGRIS Health.  This cherished ritual offers first-year students a critical experience during the program, through which they are afforded opportunities to bond with classmates, to engage in and learn from ACHE's professional community of healthcare executives, to connect with and celebrate Trinity HCAD alumni, to prepare for Preceptor's Conference with mock interviews, and to experience the city of Chicago.  Current student Camille Fagan put together this great account of her time in Chicago: Earlier this week, all 23 first year on-campus program students attended the American Col...

ACHE Congress? We've Bean There!

This past week, Trinity HCAD students had the chance to enjoy the annual tradition of attending the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Congress in Chicago. This fun ritual allows first-year students to bond with their classmates, meet and learn from ACHE's community of executives, connect with Trinity alumni, prepare for Preceptor's Conference with mock interviews and experience the city of Chicago. All 23 of the first-year on campus students attended the event along with the Trinity HCAD faculty and a number of the second-year students, who are currently in their year-long residency. There were over 100 education and networking sessions so students were busy meeting with healthcare professionals and graduate students from across the country. Research Spotlight: Retaining Employees in Health Care

There is so much effort and research activity occuring to better understand our health care delivery system, yet often it can seem either daunting to keep up with the latest news or extremely challenging to access recent findings from high-quality, peer-reviewed studies.  In light of this challenge, we hope to periodically shine a light on recent studies that relate to the important work being done every day in health care organizations across the U.S.  Our aim in these research entries is to regularly bring "bite-size" summaries of meaningful research to busy health care administrators, helping disseminate interesting findings and bring work outside the "ivory tower" to within the walls of health care organizations.  This month's research spotlight comes from a recently published study on the impact of employee engagement.
